Tool of the Day: Empty Pack – Apprenticeship Pack

January 4, 2010

Today we look at the Empty Pack – Apprenticeship Pack – No CDs (Pack of 5) from Orrin Woodward’s TEAM Leadership and Training Organization.

Even I had to do a double-take when I saw this product listing1$10 for five empty CD cases? What was wrong with the old TL136 Superstar Pack packaging? It sounds like a demotion to go from a superstar to just an apprentice. Superstar implies that the person is successful at something, whereas apprentice denotes someone learning at the foot of a master. Come to think of it, perhaps the name change is appropriate.

Now, I understand that Orrin has every right to sell whatever he wants2. Despite what he might say to the contrary, America is still a free, capitalist country. But come on, selling your TEAM members five empty CD cases for $10? That’s worse than selling a tool trunk without the trunk! If Orrin is so hell-bent on changing the packaging for the TL136, he could have paid for the cost of printing replacement stickers and given them away for free to people with the old cases.

On second thought, that might be considered a form of a handout, which we all know Orrin is not a fan of.

We do not make people or society better by giving handouts. Only by strengthening the character and work ethic of the people do we improve our communities. Character must be developed through the Dream, Struggle, and Victory process.

Right there, that’s the TEAM stance on tools. No handouts. This is why distributors are nickeled and dimed for virtually everything when participating in the TEAM Leadership and Training organization.

1 One way to get people to buy this tool is to say it’s available for “a limited time only.” Very tricky, TEAM!

2 I’m still waiting for TEAM or R3Global to come out with a Hope Chest. This would be a cardboard box in which you put photos of your dream car, vacation home, boats, or whatever you might hope to buy when you go Black Diamond in MonaVie. They would charge like $50 for the box, saying that, “Well, your dreams come with a price! Are you willing to pay that price? Then put your dreams in our Hope Chest!”

My initial thought was “what the heck??!!”
The link doesn’t bring anything up, though. I can find the TL136 titled “Apprenticeship Pack” with cds, but not the empty pack.
Is it possible that they are reading you and correcting their errors?

Quite possible, Candace. That’s why I have been taking screenshots of the products. You can see Google’s cache of it. Scroll to the bottom of the embedded window to see it.

Screen shots are a wonderful invention. 🙂

Interesting, can’t help but wonder how many of these things he actually sold.

What is next? Selling ice cubes to the Eskimos or winter parkas to the Polynesians?
