Orrin Woodward and Oliver DeMille Want to Game the Best Seller Lists Again by Volume Loading “LeaderShift”

February 8, 2013

Here’s an email blast that was sent out to The LIFE Business members today. It encourages them to place multiple pre-order copies of Orrin Woodward and Oliver DeMille’s1 upcoming LeaderShift book (bold emphasis mine):

February 07, 2013 – 1:23pm EST

Greetings LIFE Members,

Please join us in celebrating Orrin Woodward and Oliver DeMille’s soon-to-be released book, LeaderShift: A Call for Americans to Finally Stand Up and Lead, to be released on April 16, 2013. This action-packed business fable is the culmination of Orrin and Oliver’s combined expertise and will offer every North American a deeper understanding of the Five Laws of Decline and how the respective effects are becoming increasingly evident in the United States. LeaderShift will explain this devastating phenomena in detail, motivate readers to take immediate and precise action and, most importantly, offer guidance on how each individual can contribute to not only stopping, but reversing this crippling trend.

Orrin and Oliver are proud to have LeaderShift published by the prestigious Hachette Book Group (second largest book publishing company in the world) and will hit the mainstream under the Business Plus imprint of one of the country’s most elite book publishing groups. In 2011, Hachette Book Group had a record 182 print books and 62 eBooks on the New York Times best seller list, 45 of which reached #1.

We at LIFE wish to extend our hearty congratulations and support to Orrin and Oliver as LeaderShift is pre-launched and begins to accept pre-orders, which are now available on sources such as Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc. Due to the critically important and timely message that LeaderShift is carrying, the authors believe that Hachette Business Book Group is the best solution to deliver this message across North America. As such, Hachette maintains full rights on this publication and LIFE will not publish or distribute LeaderShift as we normally would with a book authored by one of the LIFE founders.

Orrin and Oliver are excited to be working with Hachette Book Group on this project, however, they are also deeply devoted to the LIFE community and committed to ensure win-win outcomes for everyone involved in LIFE (Members and Customers). Therefore, LIFE is offering a special invitation to its members to purchase LeaderShift and receive 40 points total for purchasing between 5 – 9 copies. In addition, LIFE will offer 100 points total for purchasing 10 or more copies (12 copies ordered equals 100 points like 10 copies ordered does). LIFE Members should see their upline for purchasing less than 5 copies for a recommended 5 point transfer per book. Purchases may be made via the web, your local book store or by placing a pre-order now – be sure to keep your receipt for PV credit after the April 16 release. All PV will be credited in the month of April – which is perfect timing for the April 27th Chart Topper Meeting in Tampa. Your upline will have further redemption instructions as we get closer to the book’s release. This special invitation runs from now through April 30, 2013. The LIFE Business will not stock this item until it is released in paperback, which is at least six months after the hardcover release. It’s important to note that after April 30, 2013, no further PV will be available from LIFE until the paperback version is released.

Furthermore, don’t miss out on the special conference call with Orrin and Oliver for “VIP Customers” in early May! Members of the LIFE community that order 10 or more copies of LeaderShift and receive 100 points qualify for the conference call and will receive a personal invitation. This is your opportunity to share a very personal, insightful hour with the authors and achieve an even richer perspective on the significant role you play in this movement.

Below are links to pre-order LeaderShift from Amazon and Barnes and Noble:

Orrin Woodward and Oliver DeMille want LIFE members to place bulk orders for LeaderShift in order to game their way onto the bestsellers lists.

Orrin Woodward and Oliver DeMille want LIFE members to place bulk orders for LeaderShift in order to game their way onto the best seller lists.

To recap:

  1. LIFE (i.e. Orrin Woodward) is encouraging his distributor force to place bulk orders for his book, giving them an incentive through the LIFE multi-level marketing plan to place 5 or more copies.
  2. No PV will be granted after the hardcover is actually out for sale.
  3. After six months, when the paperback is available through the LIFE Business, you can be certain that LeaderShift is going to come down as a book of the month (BOM).

LazyMan and I went into detail how Orrin and Chris gamed the system to get “Launching a Leadership Revolution” onto the best seller lists. What they did is not new, nor illegal, in the industry, but it is “considered unethical by publishers.” Are Orrin Woodward and Oliver DeMille doing again what Michael Treacy and Fred Wiersema did with their “The Discipline of Market Leaders” book back in 1995?

During the following months, dozens of bookstores across the U.S. received similar calls. By filling the orders, a BUSINESS WEEK investigation reveals, they unwittingly aided the book’s authors and publisher in what appears to be a carefully planned campaign to inflate sales and breach the integrity of the prestigious New York Times best-seller list, along with other such tallies, including BUSINESS WEEK’s monthly list of best-selling business books. It isn’t clear whether such alleged practices would be illegal, but publishers and booksellers say they are highly unethical.

Did Dirty Tricks Create A Best Seller? August 6, 1995

Comparing what they did with “Launching a Leadership Revolution” with “The Discipline of Market Leaders,” the answer appears to be yes. If you read the BusinessWeek article, you’ll learn that Treacy and Wiersema covered their tracks adequately well. Orrin and Oliver, on the other hand, are pretty blatant about their motives. There’s ample proof that Orrin and Chris encouraged volume orders of LLR and they are doing it again with LeaderShift.

Look, every author wants to get on the best sellers list, and of course authors are going to market their books to their fans. What’s important is how much reach these books get outside of their initial audience. The poor ranking of LLR in the marketplace today — #513,875 in Books in Amazon — demonstrates its lack of staying power. LLR may have been best seller, but in reality, it was only a best seller within the TEAM community. Outside of TEAM, it’s irrelevant.

How many copies of LLR are in the hands of legitimate customers (and not TEAM members)? I bet not many. Will we see something similar with LeaderShift? You can count on it. The vast majority of people who will own a copy (or multiple copies) will ultimately be LIFE members.

Maintaining the integrity of the lists is important for companies such as Amazon and The New York Times. Consider sending them an email regarding your thoughts on LeaderShift:

  • USA Today: Email adebarros (at) and mcadden (at)
  • The Wall Street Journal: john.edwards (at)
  • Amazon: @Amazonbooks
  • The New York Times: @NYTBestBooks

Update February 10, 2013: Finally, here’s the blog post from Orrin Woodward himself talking about the LeaderShift bulk ordering / volume loading promotion. In it, he encourages people to move “out of the subways of life into the Metropolitan stages of the world.” I have a question to current LIFE/LIFE Training members. Are you currently in the subways of life or the subways of LIFE?

Update February 20, 2013: MLM Punisher provides his thoughts on LeaderShift.

1 Do not miss this must-read article from George Wythe University, which explains the circumstances that led to DeMille’s departure from the university he helped found. Thanks to reader @winston for sharing.

How many copies of LLR were found dumpster diving outside of Team offices??!!
You too can be amongst the first to own several, unsellable copies of Orrin n Oliver’s new book.

Yep just got the email the other day. It’s one thing to sell a book and tell people about it, it is another thing to encourage people to buy multiple copies of a book. Plus the people buying the book didn’t even read it yet! Guaranteed it will be a book of the month.

Anthrax, I was blown away when that email came across my desk. At first I laughed thinking, “here they go again.” I got LLR flashbacks.

Then I got mad. I have 5 copies of the LLR in my office that I will never get rid of, and I only need one for me.

While it is not illegal to promote your own book through your MLM, I understand why publishers would not like to be manipulated like that.

But here’s the one that gets me HOT….HOT….HOT. ….

As soon as you attach your MLM’s PV to the purchase of a product, you have to follow certain FTC guidelines. One is that you can’t product load. What the hell is anyone going to to with 5-12 copies of this book? This is product loading like I haven’t seen since Launching A Leadership Revolution.

Orrin, the FTC will never buy this. You own a leadership business MLM that encourages your members to sign up customers. If this was added merely to be a product in your business, you would use the book to sign up new customers. What you have done here is use your members to sell more books by spiffing them when they buy multiple advance copies.

Orrin, LIFE should be about Loving People and Using Things. You Use People and Love Things. You have it all backwards.

Attention future LIFE prospects, if you would like a brand new copy of Launching A Leadership Revolution, I will sell you one for $10 with FREE shipping. I have 4 extras from the last time Orrin encouraged me to buy 5.

yes Orrin and Co. are offering incentive- points to buy multiple copies to hand out- but it seems like a propaganda technique crafted by the 3rd Reich… I’d like to know the percentage of profit Orrin gets from each book sale vs what he’s giving back to LIFE members for purchasing the books.. Sounds like a glorified discount to me…
I endured the first round of this with the hype made about LLR- duped into buying multiple copies that we handed out- to try to get “ppl stuck on their nail” as my so called mentor put it to wake up and smell the beans or shall I say drink heavy amounts of the kool aid. I know we sold 1 or 2 at most of LLR- but bought at least 15 copies….

There’s another factor here. In the retail distribution business, distributors and buyers watch trends and follow trusted predictions from people and publications supporting metrics on everything from book sales to designer clothing, etc. By picking a new (virgin, unsuspecting, hasn’t been burned yet) book publisher they’ll fill bookstore and distribution warehouse inventories with books that would “seem” to be a real hot seller and then, like now, you’ll be able to get that allegedly “hot” item (Launching a Leadership Revolution) for $3.45 like I did from Amazon who was anxious to dump them. When it comes (as Rascal Teamster said) to using people, Orrin seems to abuse and use not only the poor suckers who buy into his pyramid product and tool scams, but also unsuspecting church pastors, book publishers and respected trade magazines who unfortunately become unsuspecting amplifiers of the deceit he loves to spread.

I wish I could have said it as well as you just did. You just smoked that answer, brother.

I have to believe the question the FTC will have is, “Why aren’t you encouraging your members to get people to buy it online? If that’s what your business is, why do they have to buy multiple copies to hand out immediately. It seems like your business mod and your business behavior aren’t congruent.

Product loading money grab…best seller grab….that’s the only conclusion that I can come up to. I only hope the FTC comes to the same conclusion.

  12. MemoryLame permalink
    February 9, 2013 1:31 pm

Hatchette is the same publisher they used on LLR, so that’s not new. Hachette actually mentions how many books they’ve published have been best sellers on the homepage of their website, so I don’t know if they know or would care about how one of those books got there or not.

“until it is released in paperback, which is at least six months after the hardcover release. It’s important to note that after April 30, 2013, no further PV will be available from LIFE until the paperback version is released.”

You’re exactly right, Amthrax, people will be buying it again in October and just in time for Christmas, so they can get multiple copies to give to family and friends. The same family and friends they don’t have time to spend with right now while they’re out building Orrin Woodward’s empire.

    I also like this line:
” LIFE Members should see their upline for purchasing less than 5 copies for a recommended 5 point transfer per book.”

That’s a control mechanism to shame people into buying more than 5. They know good and well that most uplines don’t know how to help a downline figure this stuff out because they don’t know it either. There will NEVER be a cd called “how to save money on the tools you buy”. I guarantee you if it hasn’t already been said at a seminar it will be soon “leaders, real leaders, don’t buy less than 10 copies.”

    This is my favorite though:

” Purchases may be made via the web, your local book store or by placing a pre-order now – be sure to keep your receipt for PV credit after the April 16 release.”

I hope more people do this than ever. I hope you team members compare the value of your PV to that of your expense. Then I hope you ask yourselves not just what that is doing to your own income and ability to take care of your family that God gave YOU to care for, but isn’t it affecting the families of those in YOUR downline the same way?

I’m going to use an analogy that was once used by my upline on my husband.

Imagine that your spouse and children are in a home on fire and you are the only one that can save them. Imagine this TEAM/LIFE is about to destroy them and their only hope is that you be a man/woman of strength and have the guts to follow your God-given purpose – to be their hero and get them the heck out of this cultish environment before it destroys you all.

My husband and I bought 10+ copies of Launching a Leadership Revolution. We gave one copy to our son, who was 11-years-old at the time. He (our son) came to a seminar with us in March ’08 and Chris Brady signed his book, “Always do what’s right.”! LOL…now THAT may make it worth some money someday!

I’d love to see Jane’s criteria for determining it’s okay to brand the people who post here as “dumb”, let alone defining whether or not they are successful.

Many wonks in Leadership Development circles state that autonomy (FREEDOM) defines success. Based on the posts on this site it appears that TEAM members really don’t own the biz, let alone have any freedoms…the biz owns them.

The more they move up the ranks, the less freedom they seem to have on many aspects of their lives, be it finances, when to sleep, who you can talk to, what you can say, when to say it, etc.

That sounds more like living in North Korea or some form of communist country if you ask me.

So if I decide to help my neighbors and build a stronger local community to make our city a better place to live and reduce crime, does that make me a loser, or “dumb” ?

TEAM/LIFE defines “Leaders” and “gurus” as those who move tickets, keep their trunks full of CDs and books.

Is that the definition of someone who is autonomous, or an automoton?

If you stumbled here and got nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs you shouldn’t have flung a laughable, silly & dumb attempt at insult (unless you truly don’t have much of a sense than God gave a chigger, eh?) Wow the LLR all over again. My husband was so jacked up he even stood in line for hours to have them signed by Orrin and Chris for me his loving pregnant wife. I also made 100’s of calls and set up plans to win the same book over and over. That is how our leaders got rid of their extra copies. I remember getting a signed copy as a HUGE reward. We also busted our butts to pay for the extra copies we bought. In other words did not pay certain bills to buy extra tools then had to work at our real jobs to make the money back to pay our bills. did I mention all the times that it came down on system or how about in the “new” cd/book sets. Recently, BACK IN APRIL 2012, I got ANOTHER copy of the LLR in the MFC, Yes even as of last year they are still selling them to the newest members! I wonder what cd/book set this will come in? What tool set, # 9 revised for the 30th time?? Oh this will be a great cd on book gift for your family members that are “to busy or lazy to read” Yes we have this book available in every way we can so you purchase it and take out a second mortgage for me to hit a higher level in the business. Oh wait maybe they are sending another leader to the top with this new tool? Which fake leading couple will be PC after this launch? Hey your trunk will be heavy with the 10 plus copies you purchase you can make it look like your tool trunk is full. Your 10 books even at 10 bucks a copy 100 dollars total, your percentage back is based on your Life level, even at the top 30% back is only 30 bucks hello a 70 dollar loss as they stay in your trunk because everyone else in your team bought 10 too for the 100 PV. WAKE UP if you are still in your 2 bedroom house with 10 kids and have no room, save your money, stop spending 1500 a month on your business and buy your house this time next year! Man I guess I have some Team/Life issues hahahaha….

Ah Yes, here we go again with the back door pre loading of a “best seller” crap! What memories I have of the days of the LLR, the historical references that were wrong, wait, how could the Rascal King Chris Brady, the all knowledgeable about all things history of the US of A guru…(oh wait, we settled that guru crap right!) Poor guy couldn’t even get military facts correct! What a joke. And then of course after pushing hard to game the best sellers list with a special hire to the office staff (the person who’s job it was to help game the system) these Christian Servant Leaders actually put back on the BOM…(remember it was BOM when the first print came out)

Now here’s a fact, Rob Halstrand ( you know the hand picked guy OW spoke so highly of), the guy that OW at one time wanted to get rid of, and who has a certain former CEO to thank for saving his job, actually was very much against running it as a BOM the SECOND time. In fact most of the C level staff at the home office were against it. Of course those that were concerned about the second run as a BOM were told that “it was a different book” one of the reasons cited as it being “different” was the errors in the first book were corrected.

You can’t make this stuff up!

I just learned that at least one TEAM/LIFE member placed an order for thirty copies of LeaderShift from Barnes and Noble, at a price of $530. I don’t question this person’s dedication to Orrin Woodward, but I do question this person’s business sense and financial acumen. According to the original email, purchasing more than ten copies of LeaderShift will not increase the amount of points one gets. Thirty copies of LeaderShift equals 100 points, same as purchasing ten copies. From a business standpoint, this person would have been better off purchasing ten copies (or heck, just one) and wait until the book comes out on System in six months.

The opportunity cost to the participants’ families is horrendous. Thus, this is not a business arrangement but a scheme turgid with evil!

Well, here’s something to ponder (Habakkuk 2:6-7) – “Woe to him who piles up stolen goods and makes himself wealthy by extortion! How long must this go on? Will not your creditors suddenly arise? Will they not wake up and make you tremble? Then you will become their prey.” Don’t worry folks – justice will be done. It’s OK to “pray for prey”. Justice is always the right thing to do. Actions ARE being taken.

    The Guy in the Glass
    ==Dale Wimbrow, 1934==
When you get what you want in your struggle for pelf,
And the world makes you King for a day,
Then go to the mirror and look at yourself,
And see what that guy has to say.
For it isn’t your Father, or Mother, or Wife,
Whose judgment upon you must pass.
The feller whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the guy staring back from the glass.
He’s the feller to please, never mind all the rest,
For he’s with you clear up to the end,
And you’ve passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the guy in the glass is your friend.
You may be like Jack Horner and “chisel” a plum,
And think you’re a wonderful guy,
But the man in the glass says you’re only a bum
If you can’t look him straight in the eye.
You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years,
And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears
If you’ve cheated the guy in the glass.

Wow, there sure are a whole lot of LIFE/Team Bashers in here. How are ya’ll doin! I found all of this to be very comical and decided to waste some time here like the rest of you. The owner of this blog clearly spends a lot of time trashing Orin and anything or anyone associated with him. Everyone has their gifts I suppose. Way to go man, hope you get somewhere with all this Orin Bashing. Seems like you have logged many hours in this fruitless, arbitrary endeavor.

LIFE/TEAM Guy- I am doing excellent since I have left LIFE. It is a good feeling waking up in the morning that I am not making money by stealing from 98% of the business partners that I am involved with. Also, my faith life is a lot better not to mention my relationships with the other members of my family. I can go right on down the “F’s”, but I will jump to the fitness “F” where I am in the best shape of my life training for a 1/2 marathon this summer. Life is good! God bless.

    LIFE/TEAM Guy~

Could you tell us what the Lief P&P states about posting on this and other blogs? The one you signed and are contractually bond to? You did read the P & P you are violating & signed, didn’t you?

Another question and looking forward to seeing if you have enough guts to answer truthfully:

Have you been to an opening meeting, seminar, major, listened to any Cd’s? We both know you have so here’s the question:

Have you ever heard Orrin, the PC & TOP speakers, yourself?…***Bashing*** on and off stage… Critics.. Government, The President, Newspapers, News Stations, Education, Jobs, Bosses, Media sites. or **bashing** Mark Zuckerberg other Professions including other MLM’s & their TOP performers, how about MLM companies like Amway, or how about just about anything outside of LIEf Team?

I do agree with you…that everyone does, have their gifts.

And from experience, I can tell you, you will log many hours into a fruitless scam going broke, or creating financial hardship and deceiving the majority. You will also log many hours into believing your own business, and you don’t… while trusting those we know who’s word is untrustworthy.

Give us one good reason you believe you are the authority over anyone’s time or anyone should give a rip on what you think is worthy and important to them and how much time they should spend doing anything in their lives?.

Here are a couple of definitions for you to ponder, & take to the LIEF TEAM stage::

A person who indulges in hypocrisy.

    dissembler – pharisee

    hy·poc·ri·sy :

The practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one’s own behavior does not conform; pretense.

    cant – dissimulation – double-dealing – insincerity

Life/Team Guy – We are not just bashing Life/Team. Many of us feel responsible as so many of our friends lost tens of thousands of dollars do to this scam. Families ruined, friendships destroyed and seeing so many people rack up thousands of dollars of debt on tools and seminars.
After climbing to some of the highest levels and seeing what goes on behind closed doors, we realized the majority of people were losing thousands of dollars a year and not making any profit. and everyone thought they were the only ones not making money. They had no idea – only about 1 % were truly making the money talked about.
We just wish someone had let us know the truth before we wasted so much time and money and led people we cared about to be scammed the same way. And we hope we can save others before they get scammed too.

Great Post, I hope LIFE/TEAM GUY is able to stop, drop, and roll (so-to-speak) take a deep breath and be honest with himself. Really think and take heed to yours and others posts and reads the facts on this site,

It still amazes me the power of thought reform and the control that takes over their thinking and I lived it! They remain in self-deception and all repeat what they are told and all behave the same, There is NO freedom in that!

They never or refuse to address the facts, just come to throw their stones and attack others and never return…most act like play-ground bullies. They seem to glaze right over the real issues, distract, divert, and deny any and all facts.

They especially ignore those who come here and are desperately hurting and trying to get their loved ones back because they see they are losing them, to the scam. Do they think these people are joking or have nothing better to do? Sad the games they play with others lives…how they can be so heartless and refuse to acknowledge the agony and suffering these people are going through when their children, husbands, wives, all of a sudden turn on their loved ones?..And it all began when they got started on the Lief Team?! Then make fun of all those who “don’t see it”..

They think they are the “answer” to the world problems and even the desperation these people feel but don’t acknowledge it is them that changed their loved ones and pinned them against their other family. Everyone recognizes how quickly they became the cult personality. They remain in denial that the system and environment creates this behavior and creates the division! They all adopt the “us vs them” and act accordingly.

They become Callous, to others legitimate and critical concerns. It is amazing how hypocritical they are, they teach to be brutally honest with yourself, then deny, deny, deny and deny some more. The self-deception, denial, lack of responsibility and acknowledgement is astounding..

They refuse to see how this ruins and divides their relationships with their loved ones and prior friendships, that they now no longer have time for. They do not treat others with the same respect they think they deserve. Then take zero responsibility for the broken relationships.

I personally have spoken to people and know some are on the verge of divorce (getting counseling to save their marriage) or got divorce because of the division, spending, being gone all the time, it is because of the Team. They claim they help marriages, but never admit they hurt them, but if one of the spouses does not believe in the team then they never tell anyone…take time off and get your marriage right first, because they are so arrogant and desperately don’t want to lose anyone, it means they would have to replace that “number” in their team..They tell you just wait, “when you make MONEY, your spouse will gladly come along.” (then the audience applauds & laughs) Some kind of marital advice they blow off the real problem.

They are too “busy” chasing MONEY and the shiny material things, then deny they are materialistic. But the message and their P&P forces it… don’t stop, never be ‘satisfied’, it’s never enough, get yourself a BHAG… keep building for more money, more “success”, bigger houses, boats, cars, trips, fancy expensive watches & jewelry, designer clothes for them and their animals…. more, more, more.

They claim they are Christian and they are not in it for the money. But watch how they react when they think someone else is going to get it or they can’t control it all from themselves! They take zero responsibility for any damages they cause to others but expect the opposite from others. They demand 100% loyalty from you but will stab you in the back and betray you!!!. Simply the principles they say they live by and their own rules don’t apply to them!

How can you not feel for these people like concerned strawberry, wisdom, and so many others (this site is full of comments from people like them) that have been hurt and are scared and angry (rightfully so) at how their children have treated them, all because they say no to the business or because the cult changes their beliefs towards anyone on the ‘outside’.. they have adopted the false belief that anyone who doesn’t want to be a part of the Lief/Team scam is now an instant enemy, negative, hater, loser, don’t understand, want to be lazy, broke, don’t want to better themselves and live off the gov. and many other names they call them.

I could go on and on, I didn’t even touch the “Church” issues they create, the lack of regard they bread about Jobs, Gov. and so many other areas. I could probably come up with hundreds if not thousands of their mixed messages, where what they say and what they do.. doesn’t jive..but this is way too long now.

I hope the Team guy thinks about HIS family and friends, he is or will be dragging into this including himself his whole team..(if he has one) and takes heed to the warnings & changes within himself that he now believes are ‘positive’ ones? Hope he can be honest with himself.

Excellent response. That’s exactly it! Perfectly said!!!

    @Life/Team Guy,

I was one of the ones who didn’t make it. Invested well over $25,000 in the 5.5 years I was active. Didn’t make back a tenth of my investment. It wasn’t because I wasn’t working it. I never missed anything. Full system. Almost hit the Turno 15 level in the early Monavie Days. Then it rapidly died back. The business really hasn’t grown since Quixtar, an the total numbers are smaller today than they were when I joined in 2006.

I got together with an upline over the past weekend. The numbers in my immediate downline’s business are exactly where they were when I left last April (that was the last major I attended). I’m not kidding…..He still has 10,000pv on his tap and 1,000pv on his side….EXACTLY where we were when I bailed. Poor guy’s has been Trip Tracking every month too….just trying to get that 2,000pv on his side to qualify. It won’t work for him, and he works it. All he needs is to get and hold 2,000pv on his side for 6 months to qualify for his trip, and he hasn’t been able to do it. He’s been trying for over a year. He could have taken his family on two cruises with what he’s spent extra just to qualify. And the real bitch is that his son and daughter are on that side leg. So what now…does He bail in his kids or do they bail in him??? Nah…..they will stay like that for a while going broke making Mark Paul rich.

Mark Paul loves him, tho, and is going to help him become successful at this. I just wonder when the hell he’s gonna start. Laughable….I remember when I thought Mark was a qualified leader.

The Team is not a business. As Brady says,
“It’s a tax on people who are bad at math!” Anyone who would stay in after losing tens of thousands of dollars with no return should ask themselves why they continue to do it. When I asked myself those questions….seriously….every reason I came up with was easily debunked and all the results from the training were available out in the real World for a fraction if the investment. Yup….it’s a cult! Why else would I do it? It was the worst business decision I ever made.

“Philip Brittain: You bet Oliver, It is done! I ordered 20 copies and they will be gone within the week. This book and the two others coming on it’s heals are going to change everything! Thanks Oliver DeMille and Orrin Woodward for the synergy you have allowed to happen!”

Twenty copies, utterly amazing! Now that is a guy who is going to do a whole lotta reading huh? And imagine that this seduced financial participant actually believes that this book ,and the two that follow are going to “change everything”. What a moron.

I can see the headlines now “AMERICA STEPS BACK FROM THE FINANCIAL AND MORAL ABYSS DUE TO THE RELEASE OF THE BOOKS THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING”. Seriously, what planet do these people come from? The only thing that Wormwood and Deplorable’s book is going to change is the amount of money that exits the pockets of their victims, and enters theirs.

Orrin, and Oliver (sounds like characters from Orphan Annie) no amount of books can make the untrue become true, keep trying though, it gives us all something to poke fun at.

Amazing isn’t it that an Internet based business with a store who sells books (including this book) is recommending that their members buy multiple copies to sell / handout when the logical sales angle for their business should be to have a copy to show people, sign them up in your business and teach them how to buy from their own business??? That way you never have to stock the product. That was Lways the way it was supposed to be. The whole Walmart Of The Internet concept was based around the premis that you are merely a portal to the product you never have to touch.

That has always amazed me and none of the Teambots can see how messed up this is and who is profiting.

Maybe this is something that is totally obvious, but Orrin can’t ever release a book that has good news in it. Even if the people that read the book follow everything that Orrin says and “America turns around” they can never admit that because then you don’t need LIFE. They preach doom and gloom because thats what sells LIFE subscriptions. They are careful to speak in platitudes and theories that are general enough that they can never be proven wrong.

I wish we could do more to end this business of deception.

Have you read the book, leader shift? Is a blue print to Orrin true motive. Think bigger people, Life Business is a means to an end. Growing a community to sell is not what I see as his ultimate plan. I think he is recruiting those who when the time is write will be called to act. When you have a large enough group, you have public opinion. What is more powerful than that? This isn’t about an MLM company, is about singling out veritable types of people that are needed in large numbers to change the govy. What the concern should be is what does Orrin want to do with the country should be become the man with the power to command huge amount of people.

Then he tries to paint himself with some honorable impression of wanting to change America. Leslie, I think others might have read your post wrong. I did too at first but in context of your others posts it made more sense. I agree with Exambot that your perceptions about Orrin’s motives are valid. In fact, most Team/Life members would wholeheartedly agree with you on that. However, the fact that Orrin’s group size has danced between 10,000-20,000 for at least 10 years now, while hundreds of thousands have joined and quit, means I also agree with Exambot that his influence is not as far reaching as they portray.
NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE I know, no matter how many books they’ve read or how involved in leadership or people development they are, even knows his name outside of this group.

I think you will ind that most of us are less concerned about him ever assuming any real control, and more concerned about how many people’s lives he is wrecking emotionally, spiritually, and financially in his striving to get there or just to maintain what he has.

Truthfully, Orrin Woodward and his little posse have landed in a relatively sweet spot – one where a handful of them make $3-6M per year with no debt, and all they have to do is show up a few times a year to be worshipped. It’s really in their interest to keep their masses believing its going to get bigger, while letting the group stay small enough to fly under the radar compared to larger MLM’s.

I was given the book Leadershift by a Life Member. I looked at the inside cover and saw Oliver Demille’s bio. It said: “… a two-time recipient of the Gold Honor Medal from the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge”.
This is an easily verifiable statement, so I looked up the organization on the internet and gave them a call.
They looked through their data and two discrepancies came out.
    1) They don’t have a “Gold Honor Medal”
    2) They don’t have Oliver Demille’s name listed on anything, much less received an award.
They said it is possible that a “Local Chapter” of their organization could have given him an award. But that is not what the Bio Says 😦

  81. June 11, 2013 9:47 am

I will let you know what I find out.

I also had found the website you mentioned about DeMille earlier.

When I shared this information with the Life Member, they just shrugged it off like I was commenting on the weather and changed the subject.

FYI, I quit my life membership today before it got to the 30 days. They said they would refund my money when they got the their book back. Shipping and tracking was on my dime. I’m still waiting for it.

The one thing that bothered me most as a Christian in the group Team? The constant worship and edification of Orrin and Pc. As a Christian it seemed very close to idol worship? You be the judge.
Their main focus in my opinion is to keep you coming back to meetings and many thinking now they’re going to ” change” America. Their main selling point it seems now is to make people feel they are in a “cause”. They also use the ” book of the month ” in my opinion to influence their agenda. Why else would they not give you the option to choose the ” book of the month ? Even though it seems their focus has changed to selling a purpose, it seems that many forget to realize that it is a “business”.

If the Team was Catholicism, Orrin is the Pope.

Good find on Oliver. Orrin found another Orrin it appears. I’d love to be a fly on the wall when the two of them or Orrin and the Mastermind Group have their private meetings. I homeschool and have since my son was in the middle of the second grade. He is now going to be a senior in the fall and has been taking online courses that are equal to that of a college degree. He could take Clep tests if he chose to but we are not going that route because he is going to be either a pastor, missionary, or evangelist. @Sean ODonohue I was quite intrigued by your comment regarding the award given to Oliver Demille. To get to the bottom of it, I messaged him myself to find out the truth. Here is his response, A corresponding conversation led me to believe that he is being forthright.

“Brent, if it misstated the official name of the award, I apologize – it was so called to me when I received them many years ago when I was in the Air Force ROTC at a lovely banquet in Salt Lake City where others, including state and national legislators, composers and community leaders were likewise honored for their contributions to the cause of freedom. Upon reviewing the site you supplied, I see that the correct name of the award is George Washington Honor Medal.

I assure you that I would not knowingly misstate an honor bestowed; it would be ungracious and dishonest. I have no desire mislead anyone, and no need to inflate my accomplishments on the cover of a bestselling book. Indeed, I would be a fool to do so. I am extremely proud and honored to be numbered among the good people who merited the notice of FFaVF. As stated in the link supplied below, this award is adjudicated by a national jury, and awarded in local ceremonies. Good for you for checking the fine print! I hope you’re as diligent in overseeing the cause of freedom; that’s just what we need right now! If you’re a seeing-is-believing kind of guy, here’s a little bit of evidence for your faith:”

Oliver then sent me pictures of the awards that he was given.

    Thank you.

  87. June 12, 2013 7:43 am

@Brent and @Sean – I don’t know how you go from George Washington to Gold Medal. I guess this means there’s going to be a second edition of Leadershift that has the correct name of the award in the inside jacket? Now that DeMille knows of the mistake, he should make the effort to correct it.

@Brent – I’m still skeptical but want to get to the truth. I can google pictures of the medal.

Can you put his pictures into my dropbox? I don’t know how to attach pictures to comments. Maybe Anthrax can add it.

I spoke directly with the National Office and they didn’t have any record of DeMille and I emailed all local chapters and so far response has been negative.

I’m still surprised that DemIlle couldn’t get his Bio correct and had to go back to a college essay to find something to say about himself.

FYI – Oliver DeMille will be a featured speaker at the TEAM/LIFE Summer Convention at the end of this month.

How convenient! Anyone care to make a lite bet? I have no idea how to set odds on this one.

    Wager #1
Orrin and Oliver will do a book signing after Oliver’s talk….provided you buy another book.

    Wager #2
They will sell out of Leadershift books.

    I know…I know….this one’s too easy

@Brent – Thank you for going right to the source and getting pictures. That cleared this issue up for me.

An interesting quote struck me from DeMille:

“I have no desire mislead anyone, and no need to inflate my accomplishments on the cover of a bestselling book.”

However, he does not having a problem alining himself ideologically with someone that needs some major inflation to become a bestseller. I found that kind of ironic.

@Freedomhaha wrote about Oliver, “However, he does not having a problem alining himself ideologically with someone that needs some major inflation to become a bestseller. I found that kind of ironic.”

That made me chuckle too. He just had to get the “best-seller” jab in there now didn’t he?

Heck, what made me chuckle was that when he put that on the cover, I don’t believe he’d even sold a copy yet. Doesn’t one usually put a cover on the book before it becomes a best seller?

Even more interesting is that in other books DeMille has written, he touts both his PhD and his founding of George Wythe University, but suddenly omits these notable points from his bio in Leadershift. Meanwhile, George Wythe University has revoked some of the degrees DeMille awarded, exposed administrative conduct on his part, and had this to say about him just a few months ago:

“DeMille’s awarding of degrees without coursework was improper and inexcusable. It undermines the hard work and achievements of the rest of the alumni and students who legitimately earned their degrees through rigorous coursework, and we condemn it. . . . It is the opinion of this board that the public should be safeguarded from the kind of mismanagement, deception and irresponsibility that the school previously suffered under DeMille and Brooks. We condemn their actions in the strongest terms and without reservation.”

Published by the school itself, this is a fascinating history on DeMille’s victimization of the very school he founded. Definitely worth reading:

I find it hilarious that if you search for the book on the best seller list it is buried in some off the wall subsection. Not to mention labeled because of large shipment sizes.

I also checked reviews and most seem to be copies from one site to the next. I was wondering if the sites connect to pull reviews or if the LieF supporters are mass reviewing?

    That is outstanding research.

The really frustrating thing is that I have heard Demille speak at a prior Team Major. He is very good….sounds good, looks good, smells good… would never know he’s another scammer who bend the rules to his own benefit.

You know how many months it took me after I quit this business to even trust people again? Well it’s month 12, and I’m not frigging there yet. Totally surprised this didn’t phase my retail business, and although I can throw a switch and turn it on and off for the most part during my day job, it doesn’t do much for me after the work day when I’m working with my daughter on the farm.

The hardest thing I’ve found is the dance between my strong Christian values and my extreme hatred of these a-holes.

@Winston – Thanks for sharing this article. This was really a fantastic and detailed step-by-step recap on the circumstances of DeMille’s departure from the University he founded. I especially liked this section:

Consequently, many of these individuals had innocently and erroneously assumed that the Socratic seminar and the elements borrowed from the Oxford tutorial model (using classics and mentors) were not available elsewhere. By means of this particular introduction, a loyalty to personalities had formed among thousands of people. Given this, the board realized that many would struggle to distinguish the school from its founders. While supporters with broader experience were able to make that distinction on their own, it became necessary to shift the public’s focus toward the fundamental principles of classical liberal arts education, independent of the personalities delivering the message, and to implement a more calculated and gradual debriefing of the greater GWU community.

Anyone else see the similarity? Seems to happen a lot within MLM circles, this cult of personality.

Cult of personality, Yikes! Exactly!! I’ve probably said this at least once before, but I love this site and all those who dilligently help exspose the facts and emperors! 🙂

There has got to be some kind of cultish/ MLM training, (long before he hooked up with Orrin) in this guys background somewhere, anyone know? This cannot be a coincidence, it is too dead on!

Wiston great job, keep up the great detective work here, maybe Vogel will help dig up something too! 🙂

Read the one-star reviews on Amazon. While there are only three at the moment (compared with 150+ five-star reviews), they are detailed and written from the point of view of outsiders (i.e. non TEAM members).

Many thanks Amthrax and Winston for sharing the news article from George Wythe about DeMille’s unethical actions… I bet none of the Teambots even know that DeMille was kicked out of the board of the school that HE founded! I actually read something online a couple years ago insinuating that DeMille’s own degree was fake. Unfortunately for my brainwashed mind at the time, there was no evidence I could find to back this up. I thought that Oliver and Orrin were the only Americans who upheld traditional values, so I followed them. Yes, I followed…just like Orrin taught me to. Sigh.

That article was fantastic. Public, obvious, verifiable, third party information. Thank you again.

    @Just Came To,

I can’t speak for anyone else here, but kind of the way it worked for me was I found something I couldn’t deny (the bankruptcies), and it removed the blinders.

Amazing thing once that paradigm shattered. A lot of what everyone else was saying here answered a lot of my questions that I could never get answered, and it made me look at a lot of things more critically. Then Team all fell apart, and I could see what it was…..a constant search for a product to legitimize our backend tool business.

Weird thing about that backend tool business. When it became the product in Life and had to stand for itself in the market place, it kind if fell flat, didn’t it?

The Team Timeline posted here is a work of art!

Bwahahahaha! On this Dan Hawkins blog page, it says Demille’s and Woodward’s ‘Leadershift’ book was in the top 100 bestseller list,

and I quote: “Already Barnes and Noble Top 100 Bestseller”

Well I went to Barnes and Noble site and here’s a direct copy/past of this book’s ranking:

    ISBN-13: 9781455573370
    Publisher: Grand Central Publishing
    Publication date: 4/16/2013
    Pages: 192
    Sales rank: 5,117
    Product dimensions: 5.70 (w) x 8.30 (h) x 1.00 (d)

    (# of reviews 48)

This comment will probably result in a mass ‘blocking’ of me on Facebook, but so be it.

Apparently Oliver has a new book called “We Hold These Truths to Be Self Evident”, interesting enough, the introduction is written by Orrin.

On the particular thread where the book is being mentioned, a participant asks the following question, “Haven’t read anything from him yet. Isn’t he affiliated with some sort of “liberty MLM”?”

To which Oliver himself responds, “I’ve been a guest speaker at corporate events for several networking organizations. Other than as a customer of a few, I have no other affiliation.”

Oliver states further, “I think MLM is a great opportunity for those who work it effectively, and I have 2 kids who are in the LIFE business. My time and mission don’t allow me to diversify that much – I’m a writer and a thought leader, and that’s a full-time job, plus.”

So Oliver isn’t involved after all now, is he? Although not involved, I wonder how much he has gained financially from selling to Life’s indentured customers?

Ironically, Oliver has still failed to respond to a previous question I asked of him in a private conversation I had with him last June.

Here are the closing comments of that conversation.

Me, “I was unaware of this, do you care to explain any of this? I would like to give you the benefit of the doubt.”

To which Oliver has not yet responded.
