Here is an explanation from the Cultwatch website on what this language meaning and purpose is and it is called Loaded Language!
Loaded Language
The cult will have their own language and terms. These prevent people outside the group being able to engage in “dangerous” conversations with members and it gives the members a sense of belonging. It also allows a phenomenon known as thought stopping where a simple word can stop any thoughts in the member’s mind which are against the cult.
Harmless by itself, “loaded language” is used in all areas of life from the computer industry to orthodox Christianity. Every group or specialist field develops its own words or meanings for words, and this is often called “jargon.” However, when mixed in with the other Mind Control tools, “loaded language” can take on a threatening attribute which is unbiblical. For example, in the International Church of Christ cult “loaded language” is used throughout the world – a typical conversation might go like this…
“The Bible says that we are saved by grace, not by works. You are telling me that I must get people baptised or I’m not a real Christian,” says the Disciple.
“I am more spiritually mature than you and you are questioning what I am saying. You are PRIDEFUL and REBELLIOUS, you need to get RADICAL about your SIN,” replied his Discipler.
Prideful & rebellious = You are the problem, not the ICC teaching.
Radical = Plunge into obeying the ICC teaching.
Sin = Thinking or acting outside the ICC rules, often including disobeying your discipler.
Here is some more infomation from another website; on how cults work (that is the name of website), describing what a ‘Commercial cult’ is. This you could say is extremely enlightening and in my opinion would be putting it mildly.
Commercial
Cults that use commercial gain as their base are called “cults of greed”. They will promise you that if you join them and follow their special programme for success then you will become very rich. Often they will hold up their leader as an example and explain that if you do what he or she says then you will be successful too. Commercial cults use mind control to get you working for them for free, and to make you pay for an endless stream of motivational tapes, videos, books and seminars all of which are supposedly designed to help you succeed, but in reality are designed to enhance the cult’s mind control environment and keep you believing in their almost impossible dream of success. Of course they never mention that the primary way the leaders make money are by selling these motivation materials to their group! I believe this brief explanation and example are very interesting and telling to say the least. This has become a very fascinating and disturbing subject for me to learn as much as I can about. Go figure.There is a glore of information on the web, and many books that will be invaluable to me I am sure. I have said I am going to blog on this and still plan to do so. I am and will continue to learn in this subject and then I will pay-it-forward!

Hey, kind of on a tangent here, but I’m curious as to what you were all told about deducting TEAM expenses as tax writeoffs. My guess is that there has been massive tax fraud going on.

Do people not see that this is unethical and shady? The leaders are clearly showing you how to dodge the tough questions and to be vague with your answers so that people will not get blown out of the water, because if they knew the hard facts (i.e – that you were LOSING money every month), then they would never join the business.

I remember way back in Amway there was obviously a problem happening through out, because they brought in someone I believe it was from the Amway Corp. and SOLD these little tax booklets, to thousands that basically would help you not raise the red flags, it showed you where to put certain expenses, under what catagories. That was the 1 and only time!
This is not my thing,( I bet you couldn’t tell, LOL), it always stressed me out, because there were so many freaking reciepts. It usually took days because I would avoid it til the last minute.
We have always had a CPA do ours. And have had to pay in many thousands most of the years we were involved, even though we didn’t make squat in comparison to the expenses.

As a taxpayer, that REALLY galls me. In essence, I (and other taxpayers) are paying to subsidize Orrin’s profits on the tools scam. My guess is that the vast majority of deductions that distributors are taking are illegitimate and would not stand up to an IRS audit. The fruad involved could be in the millions of dollars. Someone really should file a whistleblower report with the IRS (and collect a nice fat reward in the process).

According to the Forbes Article 42 million in one year they raked in, of course Orrin said that wasn’t all profit. That was the first time anyone had heard any figure given on what the Team raked in, EVER! We had to read it in that article. He didn’t want people knowing, obviously! I heard he was livid about that Article for a number of reasons, I am sure!
I would be very reluctant to take any of their revenue claims seriously without an independent audit. It behooves them to exaggerate their claims about revenue to impress the public, but I bet the numbers that Orrin and Monavie are submitting to the IRS tell a very different (and far less boastful) story.
BTW when was the last time you heard Dallin Larsen peddle his BS about Monavie being “bigger than Microsoft” (incidentally, this was the same claim Larsen had made about Royal Tongan Limu just before the Feds kicked in Dynamic Essentials’ doors and later destroyed millions of dollars worth of RTL juice and sales brochures in a landfill pit)? Seems that Mr. Larceny hasn’t been saying squat lately. Perhaps he’s been preoccupied with using all 10 of his fingers to plug up the holes in the leaking dam that’s about to burst on his head.

I have to say You and Lazyman are way more educated on MV than we are or I would say 99% of all others.Kudos to you both for what you do by sharing that with others. What we did with MV was so short lived because they had conquered and divided our teams that we built for years during the registration.It was down right theft and greedy corruption. And what we’ve seen to date is Orrin has slid (the snake he is)into Dallin’s life and now in my opinion Dallin has taken on the same beliefs, he is quoting,& promoting & reading books Orrin promotes (outliers is one), and is turning his buisness in to a copy cat of Amway and Orrin’s practices. There is no way in hell,and with the knowledge we have now would ever build that MLM or any other! The destruction they have caused and the proof of most (95-99%)in MV & Orrin’s system, that will never make more than their expenses is appalling and call us stupid, dumb,and ignorant but we honestly never stopped long enough to see this or study the real numbers. I will say this their was about a 2 1/2 yr time frame where we could with certainty (even though we never had the exact formula) tell others that they would make this much if you built it to let’s say turbo or triple 100, because we could prove it with our income and others on our team. That is when we grew the fastest and were making OFF THE SYSTEM more money than the ‘business.’We believed and helped others get to that so they would make that amount of money. I am so sorry for all of this, it really is heart wrenching and devastating. Obviously knowing what we know now we would have NEVER brought 1 single person into something to hurt them. This is a horrible regret.

It seemed obvious to me that he hadn’t even read the book, or if he had, he was far too dense to understand even the most basic parts.
The ONLY reason they talk about Outliers at all is because of the part in the book where Gladwell mentioned that it takes roughly 10,000 hours of intensive practice to become an expert at something (examples Gladwell used included things like being a concert violinist, a pro hockey player, a Bill Gates level software developer, etc.).
The Monavie retards twist this concept to sell distributors on the idea that they need to of commit 10,000 hours to the business (of buying CDs and seminar tickets and worthless juice). It truly makes me sick.
Any distributor who squanders away 10,000 hours trying to build a Monavie “business” is a sad case indeed. Just think of all the productive things they could have done with that time (like becomeing a concert violinist or a pro level athlete or world class software innovator)
Steve Merrit and Dallin Larceny deserve to be beat over the head with Outliers. Seriously.
Techinically, those deductions would only apply if (a) the business was more than just a hobby business and (b) if the events provide legitimate training. Both of those conditions would be strained in Monavie’s case.
Most distributors fail to earn significant revenue, some year after year. When there is no legitimate expectation of profit, then the entity qualifies as nothing more than a hobby business, and deductions would not be allowable in that case.
Using the term “sales training” to describe what the pins provide is laughable. If anything, a distributor’s business will be even less profitable as a result.
Like I said before, it sickens me to think that taxpayers subsidize the evil $hit that guys like Orrin Woodwart, Brig Hartless, and Dallin Larceny are perpetrating.

That is without any special meetings, house meetings or showing the plan,phone calls, time spent on taxes & paper work, doing tools for our group, traveling, eating out, nota, just the 3 required meetings!~Add that up! And what did we get? Undue Influence, indoctrinated/brainwashed, with a bunch of quotes, our profit-sharing and teams divided, destructed and stolen, countless hours of lost time away from our children, family, and some true friends~cannot be measured! All that money we could have used for our childrens education or just a new pair of shoes, or a vacation, or just money in the bank or created a real business, or just gave away to your charity of choice, not theirs! Undue stress that caused some health issues~there is no price! Told you how to dress, what to say, when to have a date with your spouse, how much time and what you need to listen to (cd’s), read, and attend!
Then to have it all stolen, slandered and lied to and about? Who wants to sign up for that program?

You nailed it Aurora! The 10,000-hour commitment is equivalent to a full time job for 5 years or a part-time job for a lot longer than that. Not to mention that even after investing 10,000 hours there is little likelihood of acquiring expertise in anything (except failure in most cases).
Ultimately the 5 year plan is not about developing expertise (after all, how many ways are there to sell fruit punch?); it is about developing a downline, and a downline is fleeting and unstable — it cannot be guaranteed to last.
Spend 10,000 hours in college or learning a trade and you’ll walk out with a pretty good likelihood of snagging a 100K+ job.

When you sit across the table from THE leader, and he bold-faced lies to you, and you catch him on it, thats a clue to be done. I was actually doing fine in the biz, making profit, but could not stomach what my folks were doing, and losing each month, and the lies solidified it all. I have pages of lies that were said, not too mention ginormous mispromotions of events by sayings like, ” there is something huge happening at this event, you cant miss it”, and then nothing happening. As for the contract, I do not, I repeat, do not want to get anyone too excoted, but I have been going through my paperwork as I am cleaning out my desk, and found some documents that my upline accidentaly faxed to me since we could not meet together to sign them, so I have a copy of stuff, but it may not be what you want. You know the thing that is the most disturbing is Orrin himself acts like he is above reproach and he is the only one with character. He did not by a long shot get the ‘results’ he is so arrogant about. To all of my fellow bloggers:
I want to tell you all that I am so sorry for all your pain. I read all the blogs and it brings back all kinds of memories that are really very unpleasant. We knew that something was wrong at the second funtion we went to after the move to Monavie. We really were questioning behavior and statements from the “leaders”, Orrin, Chris, Tim and George. We struggled somewhat when discussing to “quit” or not. The struggle was due to the 10 years we were in, all the miles, all the money spent on tools, funcions, eating out, all the sleepless nights, and most of all, the time away from our kids! We also would be walking away from our profit sharing with Team. In the end, we didn’t want to be associated with manipulators and liars.
The good news is that when we let go, our life was so much better! It was like getting rid of toxins in your body! We were debt free and we could be free to do what WE wanted to do. We actually had so much more money after we quit, it was weird! We know now that God was doing everything except knocking us over the head, to show us that this “business” was wrong.
It took awhile for us to stop beating ourselves up over all the wasted time away from kids, family and friends and for all the money flushed down the toliet. One day we sat and talked with our kids about the entire experience and they were the ones that helped us feel better about the entire thing. They were happy we tried and that they had the example of giving something our all. They are great kids and our relationship with them is solid and strong. Praise the Lord!!
I do have to admit that we are greatful for portions of the business. We were directed to read some great books that helped us make our marriage better and stronger, made our relationship with our kids stronger, increased our faith, and overall better people in society. I believe everything happens for a reason and that God brought us to the “business” to be able to do the above.
I will be forever sorry that we brought people into this thing, and I ask God daily to direct those people to him and away from this “cult”.
To the people on this blog that are still with Team. Please read all the entries on this blog to learn from all of our mistakes. There are too many of us that have the same stories and experiences.
Aren’t you wondering why some of the biggest leaders left? What about the fact that Pastor Dickie left as well as his kids that were involved in the behind the scenes of running Team? When we read about some of the big name leaders leaving it made us question the lack of integrity of the Team. But, when Pastor and his kids left, and the fact that Orrin no longer belongs to his church, it solidified it for us! Pastor and Orrin were very close for many years, so it is obvious to us that there is unethical behavior happening. Please beware!

You nailed it on a different comment you made. According to Kiyosaki, a ‘b’ type business owner owns a system. Being a part of Team means that you are basically a rep for the Team system. That is one of the main points that I try to get across on this blog. The other, of course, is that at some point a business has to operate with a profit and 99% of Team-sters never have a positive cash flow. Again, I just feel that it is criminal to keep selling people on freedom when mere profitability is so rare on Team.

Not that I have anything against motivational speakers, Les Brown was one of the best, in my opinion. It’s great for entertainment and a temporary fix but it does not last. Ever wonder why your “fired-up, then depressed, then fired-up then depressed building the business?”
First off because the business is flawed and you have to expend every ounce of energy just to try and put people in faster than they quit!~
Next they make it more complex than it really is so they always leave you hanging, thinking you haven’t learned that last little secret to make your business explode! They will lead you to believe that last little secret is at the next seminar or major til eternity, if you let them.
Then you realize you ain’t makin a dime and spending your bill money? And you keep wondering when that ‘one guy’ you know that has a names list of 1000 people will show up? That can be discouraging, can’t it?
Seriously, how much training and secrets DO YOU NEED to sell juice?
Oh you say you aren’t in the juice selling business, you are in the leadership developement business, ok go read the FTC guide lines and get yourself up to speed on the pyramid laws, that could be some good leadership education that you might want to pass downline, just a suggestion. Your business future; ‘dreams’, could depend on it! But I’m confused, I thought I was only going to get paid off my juice? Ask your upline about the “system money” and I’ll pray you get an honest answer!
Lastly, if you have to force motivation on yourself with 3-4 cds daily and 4 books per month, to keep you in the know, and to keep yourself motivated then just maybe you are trying to hard to motivate yourself for something you truly do not desire?
Oh yea, I hear ya, there is ‘how to cd’s’ and it takes a life time to learn basic leadership principles to sell juice. Do you find that funny? Well, let me give you a clue~ BE HONEST & NICE TO PEOPLE, and stay Within the LAW, you’ll sell way more juice (well, with a whole lot of luck at the price) but it will be way better than a thousands cd’s, books, & meetings would ever teach you and a whole lot cheaper.
I know it is genius! I can’t believe it is seems so complex, but I know you can do it!
You’d be surprised at how much more money we have now that we aren’t paying out the nose for motivation & those “secret” techniques, and we actually have time to do what we love you do, it really is amazing! You really ought to try it for 6 months to a year!
I find it histerical now I really don’t need 3-4 cds per day to spend time with my family or anything else I truly desire, the motivation comes naturally! Funny how that works and is WAY cheeper too!

Great points! The ‘recession proof business’ forgot about that worn out, untrue statement! I think you nailed that one! Who is going to spend $500 per month on product & ‘system?'(indoctrination). I would think this would be a no brainer but we know they aren’t allowed to think for themselves, so they would have to check up line whether they should buy groceries or cds, books, & functions hmm…. that would be a tough decision, hope their upline is a good life-coach and has the right answer for them! Who knows maybe those function tickets are like scratch and sniff, appetite curbing and wala you are no longer hungry since they are always on the ‘cutting edge’and ‘world class’……
To add insult to injury they have some people on double system! A family just came to mind; they have a mentally challenged child who lives at home whom is over 18 and they have 2 full systems counts for that one family!!! This family will never build the buisness and they know it, they are there to belong and for the social aspect!
This is criminal to me and is one of the worst injustices, that they would take advantage of anyone like this all so they can add an extra system to their profit-sharing! This is just 1 case, I know of another that the family couldn’t afford their heat and lost their home but never got off system!

@ljgirl – TEAM used to sell Amway/Quixtar back in the 90’s and 2000’s. They switched to selling MonaVie juice from 2008-2011. All throughout this time, they also sold TEAM tools — CD’s, books, marketing materials. Now, they are selling LIFE tools, which are basically re-branded TEAM tools.

I had to revisit this Post because I believe someone asked about it and couldn’t find it! This post is a great education for outsiders, new prospects and new people in general.
It is a look inside of Team LIEF and the language everyone eventually picks up and repeats constantly. You can refer to this every time someone comes on here to defend and pretty much check off every word they use. It is what the cult experts say is stop thinking techniques and it is true. A lot of the one-liners are used by Team LIEfers for controlling and conforming and “handling objections” and sadly is how people change so quickly and become unrecognizable to their family and loved ones that are “outside.”
This post will help outsiders, and new prospects make sense of the method and language used and is a great awareness ‘tool.’
And as for all of us who have experienced this mind control….unfortunately cannot get rid of this indoctrination, thankfully after a while you can quit using it but it is always there every time you hear or read this stuff (quotes from books) it is disturbing, because at first it is hard to flush. 🙂 These words are “triggers” for those who were in and when I first left and would hear or read them; just made me want to throw up . 🙂
Amen Melanie and ditto! But over time it has become a source of entertainment and laughter for me! I have a great time applying the wrong phrases to the wrong situation at work. Yes work. The job. That thing that pays me every two weeks without fail. The thing that I just got a promotion in with a raise. Why? Because I performed. Simple as that. And my expenses aren’t going up. No extra meeting. No function. (Unless you count the one I have every morning in the john.) No phone calls. Yup, I’m fired up. Screw you Owen.
I QUIT, I second your thoughts. I LOVE having a job!! I LOVE getting paid twice each month, I LOVE knowing exactly how much will be deposited into my account, I LOVE knowing that my employer won’t take anything OUT of my account, I LOVE getting promotions and raises based on my own performance. I LOVE getting paid vacation time for time when I can actually take away from the job and relax! (Much unlike the team “vacations” that had nothing to do with rest or relaxation, and required me to pay a large part of the bill.)
Don’t get me wrong, I love entrepreneurship and owning a business. My boss is a business owner and entrepreneur, and I love working for him and learning real business concepts and strategies. But the team is NOT a business!!! (Except for Orrin, it is his business as he is the only one who owns anything. Everyone else serves at his pleasure.) For everyone else, the Team is nothing more than a grossly underpaying sales/con job with no benefits.
In addition to the jargon and well lets just call them what they are……..I will let you fill in the blamk. Team is excellent at giving credit for everything in their life to the system and their mentor. Even to the point of idolotry and diety worship. I know at least 3 team leaders wives that at one point from stage have credited the “system” with helping them conquer emotionally related mental health issues………..I also know that each of these women still suffer from the emotional issues that manifest themselves into health issues. I am really confused here and this is just my opinion based on what I have heard with my own ears from these people. If the system cured them then how can they still be suffering from these same emotional/mental/health issues?? I know that Gucci purses and Luis Vuitton shoes and outfits for your animals can do a lot to cure what ails you but really???? They still, from what I have been told have the issues that the system cured. I just point this out because when they are standing on stage teaching from a position of authority and claiming to be Christian leaders (remember they preach the Gospel on Sundays and Christian leaders) they are in my opinion grossly misleading the masses that are there to see them. I know for a fact that back just prior to the Dot 1 step days Orrin was on stage going into great detail about how he lost a bunch of weight…….In his own words he was a “fat tub of Goo” many of you remember this talk. His sister took a picture of him at the lake and he saw it and did not recognize himself. He got motivated and lost weight and did a great job of it. Then they launch Dot 1 step and he gives the credit for the previous weight loss to the new Dot 1 step program ?????? YOu make up your own mind……….I am just pointing out how deceptive they are in giving credit for everything to the business. Just my opinion but as Christians I believe the the credit is misplaced. Oh and Tim, when you say it ain’t bragging if you can do it…….How does that go over in your 4th floor prayer room? Credit goes to God and not just on Sundays when you need to sound Christian.
Finally, – I agree regarding the ‘prayer room’ that Tim & Amy have. That is only for show. If you truly have a relationship with Christ, you don’t need a special room for all to see. I knew they would stoop low, but that prayer room is ridiculous. Totally for show to try and make people think they are holier than thou. Give it up Tim – we are on to you and your lies.

My “tree of belief” took a monster of a chop when they (the leaders)(puke) started using the phrase “thumb sucking pinheads”. Remember that one guys? Yeah my reality changed big that day. Big. Huge. (oops, I did it again!)
The phrase “thumb sucking pinhead” was before my time, but I have heard it quoted numerous times before. Anyone care to share a brief history on that phrase even though I have a good idea that it refers to those “not doing the work”.
You guessed it freedom. It was/is used to also refer to a naysayer or a prospect who said no to the plan. High caliber leadership material huh?
Egad, you guys—I know some of that long list is funny in retrospect….but with myself having been on the receiving end of current iterations of the judgmental slang this past summer with a grown child, it still seems so unbelievable and makes my stomach turn….you know, like the pigs stinking like pigs, etc.
Right on No Team, he has bragged about that since the day he built the house. They use anything they can to gain credibility……..It goes something like this. Orrin will be on stage saying something to the effect ” I know Tim is too humble to tell you but Him and amy have sooooo much money being a PC member that he has a fourth floor prayer room that has an elevator going up to it…….” Or something to that effect they all do it to different degrees but it is the same process. Too humble?????? HA!!! I have witnessed the arrogance and self righteousness first hand many many times……
My upline said #101 all the time. Also, I enjoy the fact that the spellchecker on my MacBook does not recognize “upline” as a correctly spelled word. It only survives in the cult that is MLM.
Raquel- The people that are doing the worst things are not brain washed at all instead actively deciding to steal money from 97% of their TEAM. Maybe stealing sounds harsh, but lets just call it what it is!
I agree with all of the hype. It is a psychological hook to make us think that if we talk like them and think like them we can be like them. A small percentage of these people are good, but most of them are in it for themselves. Thats why they always want to get to your prospects and get them started. It is all a numbers game.
How about an MLM with low costs to build…. I want to know how many people would be interested in one that costs less than $50 to get started and product costs are less than $10 a month…..
Let me know, we may be launching in the next 90 days.
Nikolas- TEAM could have been run with those prices, but it wouldn’t change the fact that 2% were getting all the profits.

What you don’t seem to realize is that MLM profits come from the pockets of the vast majority of poor suckers who will never make any money participating in the same and not from pure sales to third party clients. That is immoral and disqualifies these schemes from being a legitimate business because they are not (other than a predatory, preying scheme) and it doesn’t matter if the cost to build is lower than a pregnant ant.

The double standards and how they want their rights but no one else should have the same; it is seriously disturbing to me. Fair? This doesn’t not reflect well on themselves.
Sad really, how Orrin himself and many many others were involved in a negative “smear campaign.” Orrin (QRUSH); hateful and vulgar trashing others like Scott Larsen, Bo Short and then full blown on Amway.
I am not sure how they can look themselves in the mirror, while typing away spreading hate, and attacking others anonymity. Somehow they feel it is only “their” right and they justify continuing their anonymity (see steadfast) or their rights are protected under the law but others shouldn’t have that same right? That doesn’t sound like they are about others “freedom” or taking our country back, that sounds more like a dictatorship.
They had attorneys fight for them and their anonymity but spread hate and call others hateful names like “nameless, faceless, cowards,” The hypocrisy and double standards I have seen are astounding.
And back to “John”…It doesn’t get anymore common than that. Hope he comes back to communicate.

WOW… what a concentration of “liberated” thoughts and comments. The anonymity is a throwback, though.
I think one of the most powerful leverage points maintaining allegiance to any MLM is the need to belong to an organization that has endeared itself to it’s constituents. This is one of the many “contributions” MLMers benefit from.
This is not to depreciate from the brutality and abuse of mass manipulations that so many “leaders” stoop to in order to maintain their equity (=allegiance of their “organizations”) without regard to the price that their followers pay.
My question, though, is whether these abuses are necessary,
I think not.
If we can fish out the rotten apples, then we would be left with a barrel of sweet scented harmony.
Jack- You can fish whatever you want, but it doesn’t change the damning mathematics that exist in most MLMs. On this blog we deal almost exclusively with the dealings of TEAM that has a less than 1% success rate.
I see heads buried in sand, that is, MLM quicksand.

I have most of my family in this Life business… They pitched it to me a while ago about being rich in a few years if I did the work I signed up and then then did the research and my gut said get out and I did quickly. My parents throw hundreds of dollars a month going to opens and subscriptions. They won’t miss an open regardless of other priorities. They are banking on this for there retirement I’ve tried to talk sense to them and they just tell me my thinking is wrong and if they just put the work in then they will be millionaires. It’s been years and barely anything to show for it. How can I talk sense into them?

Do you know if they are keeping track of their income and expenses? Have you looked at their annual tax returns? I would have a frank discussion with them regarding the financial fitness of their business. Read and understand the independent IDS Analysis post.
If they believe your thinking is wrong, ask them how their thinking is correct based on the facts of their business health.
